Samsung Electronics said on January 16, 2012 that the company plans to merge its self-developed mobile operating system Bada with Intel's Tizen, Reuters reported. Tizen is a new operating system for mobile phones and other consumer devices, which is co-developed by two Linux software companies respectively backed by Samsung and Intel. The two companies agreed to develop Tizen in September 2011 by merging LiMo and Meego.
In related news, Samsung Group said the company will boost spending for 2012 to record 47.8 trillion won (US$42.12 billion; US$1=1134.8 won), according to a January 17, 2012 report by Bloomberg. Samsung projects to spend 31 trillion won (US$27.31 billion) in capital expenditure, while other details are not disclosed.
